2010 Suwannee Fat Tire Festival

The 2010 SBA Fat Tire Festival was a great event, with wonderful weather, delightful people, and virtually no water in the Suwannee. We rode, we hike, we partied, and rumor has a few brave souls kayaked, but it seemed like everyone had a good time and no bones were broken, and only one band-aid was expended as far as we know. (Chiggers for the people walking the new trail are another matter!)

Thanks to everyone who came, to the volunteers and ride guides, to Fat Belly's and Telford House, and to the weather gods for cooler nights and warm dry days! These are a few pictures from the event, and I apologize for not getting a memorable picture of every participant. Next Year!

The Proposed New Trail

new trail

Jeremy and Ken flagged a new 9.8 mile singletrack loop in Stephen Foster. Ben met them and Sharon and Tony and Rick and I to walk it and check out the flow and how it works through the different zones of the park. More reviews and approvals are needed before work can begin, but the possibility is exciting!

Friday Night

FTF

The Friday evening meet & greet was well attended, as was the following night ride.

Friday Beast of Burden Ride

All of the rides this year started from the Stephen Foster Pavilion. Friday's Beast of Burden riders were caught starting, entering the initial palmetto area (which is nicely broken in), and then later on the trail.

Friday Big Shoals Ride

The Big Shoals ride starts the single track on the Barnett track, where Friday's riders were caught.

Friday Eco Hike

Friday's Eco Hike was on the Florida Trail along the Suwannee River. The nearly 5 mile hike featured the exposed limestone and deeply tannic water of a very low river.

Saturday Eco Hike

Saturday's Eco Hike hiked up the south side of Big Shoals for a secret waterfall that still had flowing water! The Shoals had sun bathers.

Saturday Bridge To Bridge Ride

Saturday morning's Bridge To Bridge ride had a good group of hard riding souls.

Saturday Mountain Biking Class

A few of the class participants worked on their skills afterwards.

Saturday Spooky Spectacular

The Campbell Family and friends put together another great Spooky Spectacular, and the costume contest showed some wonderful creativity and execution.

Saturday Huffy Toss

The Huffy Toss was more difficult this year, since the Huffy was particularly heavy and immune to breakage lightening. Everyone did their best, and the crowd was most appreciative of their efforts.
